Father's day

You get to call the shots on father's day weekend when you're a father, and I was all ready to make him breakfast in bed or something else pampering but all Danny wanted was to go to the Oakland Museum. They have a big exhibit there on California through the ages and it went a long way toward rebuking my snarky remark earlier that Danny would have to take Jack to the Library of Congress to compete with the excellent science museums we have here in the bay area. I was snarky because I couldn't actually imagine how a museum could make history interesting the way Danny can, but this place proved me wrong. Jack had a ball-- there were all kinds of interactive things in the exhibit and he also interacted with the parts that weren't supposed to be interactive by climbing all over them. And nobody yelled at us. Outside there was a koi pond and we spent almost as much time there as in the exhibits. It was a really nice little oasis in the middle of downtown Oakland.

Jack loves fish. And he loves weekends, because that means lots of time with daddy. Every morning during the week, Jack wakes me up by calling for me and then the instant I get in the room, it's all "da-da? da-da?" As though the only reason he needs me is as a gateway to the more desired parent. I shouldn't feel too bad, though, since this morning, after he succeeded in getting me to get his daddy, he no sooner was in his daddy's arms then he asked his daddy, "meow?" He just always wants all his family together at once. That shouldn't be so hard, should it?

I am extremely thankful that Jack has such a wonderful daddy, and we are thankful for our own dads as well. Happy Father's Day, dads!
