Happy Mother's Day to all the moms in my life. To my mom, thank you for giving me such a great role model all these years, of how to have a family and a career and lead a passionate interesting life. To Melissa, for raising the most wonderful husband a woman could want, and for welcoming me into your family. To my big sister, for doing everything first and helping me discover I can do it, too. To my grandma, for being the kindest human being on the planet, a mother to everyone, the type of mother we all hope to be. Happy Mother's Day, Moms!

Happy Mother's Day, Mom(s)!
I thought life would be carefree after finishing the dissertation but then there was a birthday to celebrate and then there was the dissertation presentation at the Graduate Research Symposium and now there is the pesky matter of formatting the final dissertation to submit on Tuesday, which is predictably taking up hours of very anticlimactic (I'm done!.... but not completely) work time. So, that is my excuse for not getting it together to send my mom a Mother's Day card, even though I'm supposedly "done" with the dissertation. The fat lady has not quite sung yet, so I'm dwelling in selfish absent-mindedness a bit longer. Sorry, mom. But in honor of your (and my-- OUR) special day, here are some roses from my garden from you. (And PS- thank you for the very nice lens for my birthday, mom and dad and Ali.)

Thank you Becky for the lovely thoughts. And thanks for sharing your gorgeous flowers; I'm jealous, my roses are only 8 inches tall and weeks from flowering.
Wow, I am so jealous. You have roses? Boy do I live in the wrong place.
