15 months

Jack reached one and one-quarter on St Patrick's day, a day after his future wife Samara entered the world (daughter of my dear friend Beany). He enjoyed a little corned beef and cabbage for the occasion (little being the operative word). He enjoyed an afternoon with his favorite babysitter, who took him for a long walk around the block. I got to peek in on them as they were leaving, and watched them, hand in hand slowly making their way down the street, Jack with his distinctive little "I'm still kind of figuring out this walking thing" waddle that is so adorable, and he suddenly seemed so old to me in that moment. The funny thing is, despite that moment, I failed to realize that it was his 15 month anniversary all day. I guess the months are really starting to slide by now.

It was a pretty good month-birthday, though, considering I wasn't even aware of it. We had a play-date with his old friend Ki and former Thursday-Friday mom, Sam. I had kind of thought she would never speak to me after I broke up with her, but I was wrong! She was all smiles and it sounds like the transition had been really good for her, too. So that relieved me of some guilt! And Jack and Ki were so excited to see each other. I didn't know if they'd actually remember each other, but they definitely did. It was sweet. We'll have to do it again sometime.

At 15 months, Jack:

- enjoys trying to walk through my legs, even/especially if they're closed-- he will run up and stick his head between my legs and wedge himself in until I take a wider stance and he can fit the rest of the way through... silly boy!

- gives great hugs

- is in fact getting really good at the sneak hug attack, when you have your back turned, he'll run up behind you and put his arms around you and lay his head down on you, and will just stay like that until you say "awwww"

- has gotten his two bottom molars but still no canines

- just got his first car, which is good because the poor kid would seek them out wherever he went and didn't have any to play with at home on account of it seems like every toy car is made in China

- still screams bloody murder upon exiting the tub. There are very few things that really disgruntle Jack, but that is one of them. And he keeps hollering all the way to the changing table until the diaper and PJs are on. We all enjoy that little evening routine.

- has a perpetually runny nose

- has a new carseat, which should be the last one we have to buy until he's ready for a booster seat

- still loves his books and loves to take them out of the bookcase one by one and bring one over to you to read, though he often gets too excited about the next book before you're done with the one you're reading

- will say "woof woof!" whenever he sees a dog

- demands to watch the woof-woof pass by and will let you know if you try to hurry him along

- loves to go for walks on his own two feet

- loves to not hold my hand on walks and then stumble over his own two feet and do a face-plant on the sidewalk or try to run into traffic, even though I try to tell him he is too young to try to be that independent

- is beginning to suggest that I might have my hands full in the coming months

Just imagine how you will feel when the real #15 rolls around, and Jack will be learning to drive. It always amazes me how fast they grow up and leave the stages you adored behind them.

Good grief mom! Don't age the child that fast - it actually causes me pain!

For the record, I would like to state: Yes, you are going to have your hands full. You don't have to suspect any more. I always thought it was a lucky thing I was already pregnant with Ethan before M got to be 18 months old or I might not have ever had any more kids. It's going to get a little rough for the next year - brace yourself! :)
