A very merry unbirthday to Jack

This was the day one year ago that the doctors decided Jack should have come out. He didn't, of course, for another eight arduous days. But we decided to celebrate him today anyway, in part because his nana and his very excellent (not just great) aunts Annette and Wanda just happened to come visit, and also because it was so cold outside there was nothing to do but stay inside and party. Jack reveled in all the extra attention, and I think even his surly friend Ki enjoyed himself.

Jack sang us several songs and then he and Ki showed us how they can be indians. Is that politically incorrect to say nowadays? I don't know how else to say it, but both boys are very amused by their ability to modulate the sound coming out of their mouths with their hands. Jack likes to use the back of his, just to be different.

Jack was in a very snuggly mood all day. I blame the chilly weather and our not-well-insulated house (notice how many people are wearing their coats in that above photo). He kept rediscovering his blankie and burying his face in it and/or his nana's lap. I don't think he could be any cuter.

Of course, mommy wanted in on that snuggle action. And Ki didn't want to be left out. Even though he doesn't look very thrilled to be there. He was, though, really.

We broke out a present I had been saving for his birthday, but it was one of those days where you're stuck inside all day and you need something new to do and you're celebrating someone's un-birthday after all. Also this is a cheapo version of something I really want to get Jack for his real birthday, so why save it? (Click below for the video.)

Jack loves music. Music, books, and being outside. Is this my kid, or what? Except for the part about birds. Maybe he'll outgrow that silly fetish. Anyway, Jack loves music, but I think he loves Julius even more. What a tragic unrequited love that is.

All in all it was a very cozy little party. They bought me lunch, did my dishes, and brought me pie, so that is the kind of party I would be willing to throw anytime! Thank you to my family for sharing this special day with us. Jack may have decided a year ago that he'd rather hang out in that womb a little longer, but days like today remind me that he was worth the wait.

very cute pictures -- thanks for sharing.

I don't want to hear how cold you guys are--it was 0 degrees F when I went to school yesterday, although today feels warm at a balmy 20 degrees. Look for a package to arrive very soon with some warmish things for little Jack's b-day.
