Grandma comes to visit

My mom came to meet Sadie this weekend. I had been looking forward to this visit for weeks (two of them, in fact, ever since Sadie was born), and it went by much too quickly. Unfortunately for us, school is still in session and this is my mom's last semester teaching before she retires this May, so we only got her for a precious few days between classes. But she will be back in a month, with the rest of the family, so we will just have to keep looking forward to the next visit.

But we got an astounding amount done in the short time she was here. We moved the whole kitchen, now that the new countertops are installed (I will post photos of that soon, we are very proud and finally DONE with house stuff... for now), we made curtains for the ugly utility shelves in the entry way, we hemmed the IKEA curtains for the master bedroom, we shopped for clothes for Jack and Sadie, we tried and failed to make a tie blanket for Sadie (the material was all wrong) and then made a second one with a hem that seems much sturdier, and we got Sadie a super premium deluxe baby swing that is certainly the fanciest piece of baby equipment I have ever owned and hopefully it will work as well as Grandma swaying does at lulling Sadie to sleep.

And somehow there was still plenty of time amidst all that for Grandma to play lots of games with Jack and give Sadie lots of cuddles. It was beautiful weather up until today and Jack spent quite a bit of time outside, chasing chickens or running around the block with the neighbor kids, but I didn't take any pictures of any of that. From the pictures I took, we look like veritable home-bodies.

And here are a few more because I can't resist.

It was a very sweet, special time. I wish it was longer. Or I wish we lived closer. I know it's technically my fault, for leaving Minnesota. But at the same time, my parents left California in the first place, which I think is a far more questionable decision.

Such nice pictures of Grandma with Sadie and Jack. Sadie Grace is just a beautiful baby! (Do you call her that or just Sadie?) I'm sure you are looking forward to having a much longer visit with family.

Great fotos of grandma 'Susie' and Sadie. She is a beautiful baby and looks big ! Jack is really cute and I am sure lots of fun right now. How does he navigate those awful stairs, or are you totally downstairs now ?
