One week old

I told myself Sadie would get just as much attention (and just as many photos and blog posts) as her brother did at her age, but that's clearly just not going to be possible, because not only did Jack not have a wildly gallivanting two-year-old dominating the household at his birth, but we were not simultaneously trying to move into a new home and while still trying to fix up the old one to make it more livable for our new grandparent tenants. Sadie is one week old today, and I don't know where the last week went. I still have not gotten a single photo of Sadie and Jack together, though I do have this pretty cute video of them:

I haven't managed to add Sadie to my benefits yet, because our printer has no ink and when I tried to take the kids to the library yesterday, all hell broke loose (Jack ran away from me and into a parking lot; Sadie who had until then cried maybe twice in her life picked that moment to have a complete meltdown) and then the stupid library wasn't even open because they were observing the observation of President's Day the day before. Today I decided we weren't going to leave the house and it went much better. I have been so successful at not leaving the house, I haven't even changed out of my pajamas yet, and it's 5pm.

I still haven't decided whether I'm taking disability or PTO for my maternity leave, because that requires printing out some forms (see above) and making some strategic decisions, which I don't seem to have the capacity for at this juncture.

We still haven't quite finished painting the kitchen, which needs to happen before the counter can be installed, which needs to happen before we can use our own kitchen and not keep trotting upstairs and expecting grandma to wait on us (although that has been really nice, I'm not going to lie).

Danny still hasn't quite finished up the repairs upstairs, because every time one thing gets fixed (water pressure, hot water heater) another gets broken (sink faucet, sink faucet again, tub faucet, which in turn means dry wall and tile and painting...).  He tried to return to work yesterday, at least part-time, from home. But he had to take the day off again today to deal with... you know, everything. I think he should stick to my agenda: pajamas all day! Huge success!

So what have we managed to do this week? Sadie has started opening her eyes. Jack has learned his colors. I got a massage. It stopped raining (though we can't take credit for that). Exciting times at 5455 Shafter! Stay tuned-- maybe by next week I will have figured out how to fix breakfast cereal again!

great video -- Sadie looks pretty alert, but I am not getting a good look at her face, so I'll just have to wait until I see her in person.

Well, I still don't change out of my pajamas! What's the point? It just makes you feel like you should go somewhere!
And now you know why I truly didn't leave the house for two years after E was born and M turned 2. I really didn't!
AND I still don't like to take the kids places. I make an effort when Dad comes over and wants to do something fun, but otherwise? Jeesh. I'd rather stay home!
Keep your chin up sister! It's an adjustment - you're not expected to master being a mom of two overnight (or six years if you're me).
