Christmas, take II

We stayed inside all day. We basically didn't stray far from the bed all day. It was rainy out, and cozy around our little tree. So I am proud to report, nobody got hurt all day, and we had a very low key and peaceful Christmas. Did I say low key? That's not quite true. Jack had a blast!

He is way more excited about presents this year than he was last year. Which is to say, he gets that there are things inside of packages that he wants to open up because the things inside are cool things for him to play with. Welcome to the rest of your childhood, Jack! It just keeps getting better.

Jack had a great time chatting with his Minnesota family on the video cam, and enjoyed playing with all his presents with his Oregon grandparents, who joined him on the bed. He didn't ask to get down once. I don't know if that's because he was smart enough to not want to stand on his hurt foot, or if he simply had so many things to entertain him on the bed, what could he possibly want to leave for? Other than to take this cute picture.

Yes, I know that Jack is wearing no pants. This is a deal we worked out, that if he wears his splint, he doesn't have to wear pants over it. This pleases him greatly.

Jack had a great visit with his Oregon grandparents. They came in earlier this week, and he got to spend every day with them, while mommy finished up some reports and daddy ran around like a headless chicken dealing with various holiday-order related emergencies. They had lots of good adventures that must have wore Jack out good, because he slept great every night this week, which was an extra special gift for his parents going into the holidays.

We all went down to Nana's house on Christmas-eve-eve to celebrate with the Chaplin family, which involved silly stories and Christmas carol trivia and breaking into song right in the middle of dinner. I'm not sure what Melissa and Bill made of all that (they were very generous in saying it was lovely, not that we were a bunch of weirdos), but Jack loved it. He likes songs that one person sings to him (usually mommy or his Lo-lo); when all the big people around the whole table are all singing in one big chorus, I think it's a dream come true.

I think Jack likes Christmas. Presents, singing, family, lots of attention, it IS the most wonderful time of the year!
