19 months

Jack has been keeping his parents busy this month. We seem to have reached the stage of the Calvin & Hobbes cartoon where the mom tries to get Calvin worn out before bedtime by chasing and tickling him but by the final panel she is asleep on the couch and he's still sitting there, wondering what's next. At nineteen months, Jack:

is mimicking everything his parents say, including the bad words (oops!)

knows that the "magic" word is "please"

still refuses to walk around barefoot in grass

is getting better at sharing; can stifle the "mine!" reflex and will even hand toys to other kids... but wants them back right away

has been occasionally walking around on tippy toes for reasons unbeknownst to his parents

got another 6 teeth all at once this month, bringing the total to (I think?) 16

loves to brush those teeth to the tooth-brushing song I learned in elementary school

has started memorizing his favorite pages from his favorite books, such as when the dinosaur ROARS and when Clifford falls off the bar of soap and he is supposed to scream "OH NO!" (at an octave almost too high for human ears to hear)

will also sit and read his books to himself, babbling extensively as though he's simply translating them to a different language

enjoys pointing out the ears and eyes of the cat and other ear-and-eye-having objects

thinks the TV is where the "shih" (fish) live

went through a little separation anxiety from mommy and daddy this month, but seems mostly over it now

swims at the community pool with his favorite babysitter Maddie

still loves playing Run & Hide From Daddy Until Daddy Comes & Tickles Me, his favorite game

desperately wants to talk on the phone, but then when I put it on speakerphone and hold it in front of him he mysteriously has nothing to say

now lays his head softly against his cat, in attempts to give him a "hug" while mostly out of reach

has (at least once) figured out that if he really wants the cheese, sometimes he might have to take a bite of whatever else daddy is holding out in front of him first

What a really great picture of 19 month old Jack. I was amazed to find that Jack remembered the hide and seek game we played in May, and he is quite firm that the seeker stand exactly in the "correct" place! What a cute guy he is!

I can't believe how big Jack looks all of a sudden! He's looking all grown up! Not much of a baby anymore. :)
