Wikipedia tells me the rocking horse has been a child's toy since the early 1800s. Jack has discovered that it's just as much fun now as it was then.
Every morning he sees it when he stands up in his crib, and when I come in to get him he starts giggling excitedly and pointing at it, and if I dare try to take him out of the room without giving him time with his horsey, he lets me know a thing or two. Our downstairs neighbors handed this timeless treasure down to us, it having been handed down to them by another neighbor who also had had it handed down. This little horse has made the rounds! I don't think I had a rocking horse when I was little-- I'm not even sure my parents did (there is no evidence of it at my grandma's house). Perhaps it is making a comeback.
