T.S. Eliot was right. This month has been challenging, to say the least. In between getting baptized and turning 30, here is what happened:
- Sam, who had agreed to take Jack to make up some days she owed me, sprained her ankle; couldn't take Jack
- my nanny got a UTI; was out for a week
- I had to pay said nanny for a full week of care even though I only use one day of care a week from her, due to a sick day policy decided prior to my arrival in the share that is apparently as non-negotiable as it is ridiculous
- nanny got better; Jack got sick, had to stay home from the nanny share
- Jack took a trip to the ER for a high fever resulting in a seizure-- whee!
- I had to take a bunch of seventh graders on a weekend field trip, ripping me away from my otherwise perfectly reasonable 20-hour-a-day dissertation scramble, necessitating several 30-hour days to make up for lost time of field trips, sick babes, and sick nannies
- I subsequently came to the conclusion that days, in fact, do not have enough hours
- At 11:37pm on April 28, I FINISHED MY DISSERTATION. 23 whole minutes before turning 30. So there, cruelest month!
(I would like to thank the following people for making this month less cruel than otherwise planned: my grandma for coming to my rescue with childcare more than once, my parents for giving my entire dissertation a final edit one chapter at a time in the final week because at that point there had been so many revisions I couldn't even read it anymore, Danny for endless contributions to maintaining some level of household sanity, Jack for not dying, and Julius FOR POOING IN HIS CAT BOX! WAY TO GO, CAT!)

Yay! April sucks! But you did it! See, you were supposed to be a May baby - and that would have given you one more day. But, I agree, days do not have enough hours. Or maybe it's just that needing to sleep is a real pain in the butt. I wish it was optional - like showering. Do you know how much more I could get done if I didn't have to sleep???
Glad to see you've climbed out of the dissertation black hole. It's nice to hear from you again!
