Sundry Sunday

I have a lot of catching up to do, and I know from my journaling that there is an inverse relationship between how much catching up you feel you have to do and how soon you will do it, until it gets unmanageable and you just have to start over. I'm going to try to break that rule because otherwise I can see March very quickly disappearing and having nothing to show for it, even though this has been an explosive month of development for Jack. So, since Danny is at work and Jack is napping and I for the first time in weeks feel like I don't have an impending deadline that requires me to put everything else on hold, I will catch up. In no particular order, because if I tried to be that organized this could take all day.

Sundry items of note since last I wrote:

We went to Tahoe again last weekend, for the last time until after Easter because every weekend from now on I am in this great Catholic Pageant called You're Getting Baptized, starring: me. Jack had some fun bonding time with his dear pal Liz, who we just realized we hadn't seen since we'd both been in Chicago in December. How's that for a sign of busy lives, when the girl only lives 15 miles away? I don't remember what the joke here was, but Jack clearly said something hilarious.

Jack also went sledding for the first time on this trip.

He found it.. a little underwhelming. It could also have been that he was just too tired. We went snowshoeing right after that and he actually fell asleep on Danny while we were climbing a mountain, which made for an interesting descent for Danny. We'll try again one last time in April. He's still just trying to wrap his head around this cold white stuff called snow, I think. It's fun to play with at first, but then your hand gets all cold and wet and he doesn't like that very much. It makes a nice cushion, though. This is Jack's first snow-angel. Kind of.

(Note the ziploc baggies as booties. Are we resourceful parents or what.)

Wednesdays have gotten more interesting for Jack now that he has not only his nana but his great aunt Lori to keep him entertained. Unfortunately for Lori, she had a bad arm break and is pretty out of commission for a while. But fortunately for Jack, that means he gets to see her more often. Nana read lots of stories to Jack, which he loved because when she reads him a story she doesn't so much read the words on the page as quiz him "where's the kitty? where's the moon?" and he loves it, because he loves pointing. And he's getting pretty good at finding the kitty, too.Jack is pretty much always up for storytime. Now that he's walking, his favorite thing to do is grab a book out of his lower shelf of the bookcase and toddle over to where you're sitting holding the book above his head to show you how important it is that you drop everything and read it. I love that. I hope that never stops.

What else? Jack got to spend the morning with Daddy on Friday, while Mommy had her big committee meeting that has been distracting her so much lately. That was a special treat because usually when they get one-on-one time it's in the evening, which is not Jack's best time of day. Jack is definitely a morning person (something he did not inherit from his mother), so I think Danny was glad to get some quality male bonding time, at a time when his compatriot was less inclined to scream or throw food at him.

And now catch up time is over because somebody is up from his nap. And I didn't catch all the way up because I didn't even get to this weekend. I guess that will have to be another post, because Jack is bright eyed and bushy tailed and the sunshine outside is calling.

Love the video -- is that your new camera? Good clarity and color. More, please.
