The park at nana's

I had tried to find back-up childcare for today, since Sam was out of town for the long holiday, and back when I'd agreed to this scheduling I had figured I could just find an undergrad to help me out. But I forgot the semester doesn't start until next week, so the undergrads aren't back from break yet. After making a half-hearted effort to find some friends' nannies Jack could tag along with, I figured this was the universe's way of telling me I needed to take Jack to spend the day with his nana. So I did.

I asked my grandma if she knew about this park my mom had taken me to when she was here over Christmas, much closer than the park we go running at, and much more appropriate for little kids. I thought it must be a new park, because I never remembered having been there before. My grandma laughed and told me, yes, she used to take my sister and me there all the time when we were little. Really?? I asked. I guess I haven't been back in twenty-something years. But it's a great park! Jack loved it.

He loved watching the bigger kids running around, he loved the swing (as usual) and the slide (which he rode down all by himself for the very first time), he loved walking along the fence using just one hand to keep his balance acting all nonchalant like he could take off running at any second, and he loved scampering between the play structure and his nana's lap where he would start to crawl up her legs until she would pick him up and point out birds to him. And mommy loved taking pictures. (Mommy got a new camera for Christmas, can you tell?)

It's fun to think about me running around these same stomping grounds so many years ago.
