March is Grandparent Month

We just had a visit from Danny's folks last weekend and are awaiting one from mine this coming weekend, and I'm staying over at my grandma's tonight because Danny's out of town again (this time on business), so Jack is just getting all kinds of attention from his grandparents this week.

On Friday, Jack got to go to Sausalito with his Grandad Billy and Grandma Milly (rhyming grandparents!) while his poor daddy had to go to work. It was a beautiful afternoon and we had a very gourmet picnic by the seaside, with egg salad, roasted purple potatoes, and asparagus vinaigrette. Who needs to go out to eat? (I should mention that Bill and Melissa unintentionally tortured us the previous evening by ordering Zachary's while we were out, which is the very worst smell to come home to when you're fasting from eating out.) We stopped in at Heath, which is not a chocolate bar factory, it turns out, but a manufacturer of very fine stoneware, which I accidentally bought a few pieces of because they were "seconds" with small flaws and as low as a dollar a piece marked down from $16.50 and a Chaplin cannot turn down a bargain like that! And then we stumbled upon the Bay Model, which I had often seen advertised from the roadside and always thought was a very attractive woman elected or appointed to pose in front of the bay, which doesn't really make sense and is kind of embarassing now that I write it down. But my second misinterpretation of the day was soon corrected; it is, much more obviously, a model of the bay. To scale! At three football fields large, it is 1/100th the size of the bay and delta. We were pretty excited about it, in a totally nerdy way. It gave me that same giddy feeling of being a King Kong-sized onlooker as Mini-Europe, which my parents took me to in Brussells when I was about 8. I think that was my favorite part about our Europe trip, and this is my new favorite part of Sausalito. It was built and continues to be maintained by the Army Corps of Engineers and simulates the hydrology of the bay perfectly. I'm not sure why it exists, but it's free and it's pretty awesome. I highly recommend you all go whenever you get the chance, and you can find out more about it here. And that concludes my Bay Model infomercial. (They're not even paying me!)

I tried to get some good portraits of Jack with the Cadwallader-Kramer clan over the rest of the weekend, and succeeded more on some fronts than others. I really like this one of Jack with his daddy. I don't get credit for the one with Melissa, but I love that one too. I am very sorry none of the photos of Bill were in focus. I don't know why I can't take any good pictures of you! At any rate, Jack says thanks for the great visit Grandma and Grandpa, and to come back again soon, and looks forward to the arrival Grandpa Steve and Grandma Sue on Saturday!

Is it just me or does that child look like he's about nine months old? You must have some very rich milk. :) And we thought T was a big boy - I think Jack's going to pass all three of them up in a few more months. He'll be able to hold his own just fine.
