Meeting Aunt Alison

The long awaited day has come. While Jack foiled Alison's attempts to meet him on her first visit here, good things come to those who wait. Now she gets him all to herself, doesn't have to share him with any grandparents, and he is awake now to play with her for a much greater portion of the day than when he was first born. He is unfortunately awake now for a much greater portion of the night than when he was first born as well, but don't get me started on that. (Maybe Aunt Alison will come over to play from 3am on, when Jack decides it's time to stop sleeping for the night and there's nothing else to do in this boring household but eat every hour on the hour?)

I was looking forward to my sister's visit for a number of reasons, not the least of which were to take advantage of her very professional photography skills. I had been proud of myself up until now for getting at least one photo of Jack every day of his life so far, but Alison came in and took more photos in the first 20 minutes she was here than I had taken in the first three weeks of his life. And they all look good! Even the ones I took turned out okay thanks to her snazzy camera and her flicking all the right switches ahead of time. Here are some of my favorites.

Becky, he's getting prettier all the time. I think Alison found that the babies slept better when they had a warm bath before bed -- not that it would carry them through the 3 am wakefulness. But baths also wake them up and tire them out a little in the evening, so they hopefully will sleep longer at night. Hate to tell you but their circadian rhythm (for night and day activity schedule)is not well established until the 3rd month...

Becky, He is beautiful! I know the 3 am waking is hard, but babies are so cute in the middle of the night. Their eyes are so wide open (no light to make them squint). They seem to look around more, and it is so quiet and peaceful - if you can get yourself awake enough to enjoy it. Luckily, it does not last!
