Sometimes a new mother needs a little help from her family, friends, and the world at large. As a mother myself, I understand how exhausting those first few days of motherhood can be, so I happily accepted when Becky asked me to post some pictures of their new family. I am happy to help in any way I can.
The very first pictures I was sent were from our mom, who had rushed over to the hospital as early on Thursday morning as my exhausted sister (and brother-in-law) could tolerate. She called me from the hospital to tell me all about this beautiful new baby boy named Jack, who had worked so hard to make his way into the world within 12 hours of the onset of labor. I don't really know who to admire more: my sister for being so strong, or that baby for being able to tolerate the torturous event that is birth.
Jack was born at 10:30pm on December 17th, 2008. He was 8 pounds and 2 ounces and was 22 inches long. He spent the night with Danny and Becky in their room and slept most of the night. It's tiring being born!
When they finally passed the phone over to Becky so I could talk with her, I was happy to find that she sounded well rested, and actually had some energy to relay the events of the day before. I could also hear some very sweet baby noises in the background. He certainly sounds like a gorgeous child. I got my mom back on the phone to pester her to take some pictures and then send them back to me as soon as possible. This long distance Auntie thing is really not working for me. I want to see him for myself.
And then, there he was in my inbox.

Now, if only I could see his eyes. I sent my mom back for more pictures.
She sent back this one:

I spent about 40 minutes talking with Becky tonight, and I have to say, I think they are doing very well. Those first few days are tiring, confusing, scary, and more than a little overwhelming. They seem to be doing a fine job of figuring out breastfeeding, they are managing to eat, I think they might get some sleep tonight (I have my fingers crossed), and most importantly, they are supporting each other to solve their problems and get their questions answered. Now, if only someone over there could manage the blogging you wouldn't have to read any more posts from me. Until then, I will post pictures for them and relay any stories they care to pass on to family and friends.
Congratulations Becky and Danny, and welcome to parenthood!

Congratulations Becky and Danny! He is so precious and darling. You two look great, too!
Thanks for forwarding Sue's photos, Alison. As grandparents, not yet there, we were anxious to see the "new" family, too.
